Application of potassium silicate in coatings.
Product advantages
Low VOC, no smell, no sensitization, adjust the environment humidity, inhibit the growth of fungi, eliminate allergy, long-term preservation, easy construction, good performance.
Product advantages and disadvantages
1. Potassium silicate coatings are environmentally friendly, low-gas and respirable coatings, low allergen coatings, low toxicity, low harm, non label raw materials, low VOC or even VOC free raw materials and products.
2. Easy to apply, excellent anti - scrubbing, painting and good leveling, durable, good air permeability. It is the raw material for producing inorganic zinc rich anticorrosive coating, which has strong acid alkali resistance, corrosion resistance and strong adhesion.
3. Porous form gives excellent air permeability of coating.
4. Indoor environment without fungicide.
5. The inherent alkalinity inhibited the growth of fungi, algae and other microorganisms in the tank and dry film.
6. Weather resistance, water resistance, freeze-thaw resistance, aging resistance, weathering resistance, hardness and bonding.
7. The properties of the mechanical properties are better than those of organic coatings.
8. The raw material resources are rich, the production process is relatively simple, the price is low, energy saving and environmental pollution is reduced; acid and alkali resistance is less affected by the environment; the adhesive force is strong, and the requirements for the treatment of the base material are not strict; the durability of the material is good, the covering power is strong and the decoration effect is good.
9. The temperature can be used in a wide range; the color is uniform and the color retention performance is durable; it has good heat resistance, fire resistance, non-toxic, etc.; only a very small amount or no bactericide is added.
Scope of application
Protective coating (to prevent "frosting", i.e. salt surface crystallization)
Production difficulties
1. The free multivalent metal ions of pigments and fillers will affect the silicate system, so the selection of pigments and fillers is very important in silicate coatings. The ideal pH is 10.0-10.5, so all raw materials used under this pH condition should meet the alkali stability and unnecessary saponification reaction under such high pH condition.
2. The anionic dispersant with stable dispersing effect should be selected as the additive, and the hydroxyethyl cellulose or hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose with proper viscosity should be selected as the thickener.
3. inorganic potassium silicate paint will appear in the acidic medium gel phenomenon, so in the production process as far as possible to maintain alkaline. When potassium silicate is added to the coating, a small amount of potassium silicate should be added for many times. If the amount is too large in turn, it is easy to form demulsification.
4. Single silica sol should be combined with certain synthetic resin emulsions due to its low solid content and large drying shrinkage.
